Andy Stanton-Henry's insights into rural communities, drawn from experience as well as study from faiths around the globe, is challenging and enlightening. Each of the twelve chapters follow a direction on the moral compass of humanity: Retreat, Discernment, Stability, Inventory, Imagination, Organizing, Hosptiatlity, Grounding, Gratitute, Generosity, Solidarity, Memory. I particularly appreciated the chapter on Practicing Inventory: work with what you have instead of bemoaning what we don't have. It's a great spin on adjusting our attitude to small rural America a place of hope and joy instead of poverty in spirit and material and despair. Meant for leadership, I found the book uplifting as a positive read and it helped confirm that numbers aren't as important as mindfulness.
